Event: Maintaining Ukraine’s resilience research panel

“Russia’s war on Ukraine threatens the very existence of Ukraine as a state. To date, Ukraine’s leadership, its army, and its people have denied Putin his ambition. Western military and economic assistance underpins Ukraine’s success in defending itself and repelling Russia.
However, the tipping point in this war has not yet arrived, and it has already exacted a heavy toll on Ukraine’s armed forces, its wider population, its economy and its infrastructure.”
The panel event takes place on 16 January 2025, where experts will discuss what support Ukraine needs to maintain its society and institutions in the face of Russia’s continuing war of aggression. At this event, co-hosted by Chatham House, the United States Embassy in the UK and the Scottish Council on Global Affairs, experts and representatives from Ukrainian civil society will consider how Ukraine’s allies can maintain support for the Ukrainian state.
Key questions to consider include:
- What impact has the war had on Ukrainian society and institutions?
- How are citizens coping with the war? What are the aspirations and fears of Ukrainians?
- How is the Partnership Fund for Resilient Ukraine (to which the UK is a major donor) helping to bolster Ukrainian civil society?
- How can eventual conditions be created for Ukrainian refugees to return and rebuild their society?
This event will be held on the record and followed by a drinks reception.
